Well, the first Tour event of the year is in the books. Not the start that I
wanted! I had a tough practice. I never got on much. The final day of practice, I found an area where I
could at least catch a limit. I focused on that area during the tournament and managed to catch a limit each day.
Unfortunately, the fish I caught were small. No kickers. I started the tournament with a jerkbait. However,
after my co-angler caught a 4-pounder and a 5-pounder on a jig head worm, I put my jerkbait down! I used a Berkley Finesse
Power worm on a 1/4 oz jig head to catch a small limit. On day 2, I used the Berkley Finesse Worm to catch a limit.
Then I threw the jerkbait along grasslines to cull several times. Day two was fun. I caught over 40 fish.
However, they were again small and my two day, 10 bass total was only 20 pounds, 6 ounces. Not a good start to the season.
David Fritts won the event. He is on a roll and fishing really well.
Today was day one of the FLW Tour on Lake Guntersville. I managed to catch a limit,
but they were all small. My limit weighed 8-10 and I'm down in the triple digits (113). The wind didn't
blow and my jerkbait bite died. My co-angler caught fish on a shakey head. So, I started throwing one and caught
my small limit. I weighed in four spotted bass and one largemouth. I need to catch about 30 pounds tomorrow!!
I really dug a hole for myself today. I'll go catch all I can tomorrow and try to salvage a few points.
My practice so far has been really tough. It is frustrating, because I know it will take
huge weights to well in this event. The water is from 44 to 47 degrees with about one foot of visibility. I never
had a keeper on my first day of practice. Today wasn't much better. I had one keeper on a jerkbait and one
on a Berkley Gripper jig. It has been getting a little warmer each day. That will help the bite. The
fish are grouped up right now and hard to find. If you can find the right area, you can get well in a hurry! I'm
still looking...................
It's getting cold again tonight. The Lake Guntersville FLW Tour event is
almost here. I bet the water temperature will be low. The lake is full of big bass though. I'm ready
to do some fishing! Here's Don Berry's Fishing Radio Show link: http://www.fishingradioshow.com/ You can listen live between 4 and 5PM on www.jock987.net
